after all, what you should be doing here is sharing a part of yourself
with the audience - so it it's not a part of you then you shouldn't
be worrying about whether it's a part of your performance. and if it
is, then it will probably fall into place without worrying about it.
hopefully that makes some sense...
An anecdote - I saw Hrvatski and Greg Davis in Middlebury VT. I'm not
sure how the show came about, but a few of us drove in and the rest of
the audience was college kids who had never heard of either artist.
Hrvatski asked the crowd what they wanted to hear - someone said 'drum
and bass'. His response was to play some of his older stuff, not the
drones I believe he was playing on that tour. He did the marble madness
track and few other more accessible bits along with the stuff he's now.
The crowd was into it. So I think there is a place for playing to what
the crowd wants to hear.
Sharing a part of yourself with the audience can go hand in hand with
the audience sharing a part of themselves with you.
