Re: [microsound] on working methods for live performance

I haven't seen Fennesz
perform, but I'm wondering what you mean when you say he's the only
powerbook guy "who can really pull it off". Do you mean his music or
his "performance"?

I couldn't pinpoint why his performances are so special. Yes i guess his
music is amazing so that's obviously the main reason. No one i've ever seen
perform (laptop only wise) appears to have as much control over their output as he
does.
This isn't an anti laptop thing but after watching live bands for years, i
felt i had to re-train myself to stand and watch a laptop performance. I'm
wondering nowadays if that's right. Surely if the music being created is good it
should work on you rather than you working your brain around it?
David Toop said in a recent lecture at my uni how we are confronted with a
simillar (visual) performance when you visit the bank.

i've seen Francisco Lopez and John
Duncan each perform in total darkness; neither ever put in an
appearance before the audience (to acknowledge applause for example).
Still, the performances were totally engaging.

That sounds incredible!!!
