I see, i never tried Win2K myself but XP works fine, I hear from a lot of
people that it´s good that we put Win2K behind us, regarding audio.

True. Even when there is a computer present, the modular has the advantage
of having extremely low latency when used as a effect, getting comparable
latency from a computer would require a lot of tinkering. Seeing as the
original question seemed to be about a small (and probably preferably
afordable) piece of gear, getting the Micro Modular and the smalest MIDI
controler around might be a good option. It would be hard to find a
alternative that would give more "power" at a more affordable price or in a
smaller package.

2nd Hand Micro Modulars go for around 300Euro these days which I still feel
is the best bargain in the history of electronic music.

Perhaps this would be a good time to point out that I have no shares in
Clavia. :¬)

Yes, I suppose so and if you compare the Korg´s options to those offered by
the Micro Modular with a small MIDI keyboard, particulary with regard to
what people on this mailinglist are going to want to do with a synth then I
think the Korg is losing the battle. I´ve heard very positive coments about
the Korg´s vocoder but in my view it´s losing a lot of points for naming
presets after musical styles and printing those on the front pannel.

Kas.
