I can hear a pure sine wave up to 23KHz. 20KHz is where most people cut off, but there's certainly no hard line. I'm sure I'll be down to about 16-18KHz max in a few years with subways and whatnot anyway. I will agree that there is nothing really "useful" about 20KHz.


If you want to avoid "sounding digital" its not the sample-rate. It's
dithering and levels

I'll agree on this. Anyone who claims they can hear the individual samples (yes, I've had the displeasure of meeting such people) is full of crap (or placebo-affected).
