actually i voted for autechre out of the understanding that probably more
people listen to autechre than to stockhausen, henry, xenakis, etc.
i personally, and i guess there are more similar cases out there, got into
the other's named music only via autechre actually.
for the same reason eno might have had even more influence, but i rarely
heard of people telling that eno got them into electronic music, or at
least, for those who do, electronic music often seems to end with eno.
i know there are other, equally valid ways of perceiving these things...

interesting point. i looked at the poll as more of a "cumulative" influence
rather than a contemporary one, but i think your point has as much
validity. certainly, for me, eno had a great influence on my interest in
electronic music and how i wanted to develop it. and i was lucky to have
the chance to see xenakis "perform" his piece bohor when i was in
college at indiana university in '71. xenakis was composer in residence
there, and he presented bohor on a multichannel sound system that
was incredible. the stage was bare save for a 2" multitrack, and xenakis
walked out with this big roll of tape, threaded the machine and hit play.
awesome.
i voted for cage, by the way.
cheers
