[microsound] Xenakis




  and i was lucky to have the chance to see xenakis 
"perform" his piece bohor when i was in college at indiana university in '71.

You lucky mofo.  I went to Indiana as well, about 25 years later, 
though

 

I like Autechre, but heard Xenakis first.  I came to Xenakis through 
involvement w/ contemporary 'classical' music, not even through interest in 
electronic music, though Legende d'Eer was in fact the first piece I 
heard.  Now I own like 4,000 cds of his, of course.  

 

The poll aside, I feel sometimes that history may recognize him as the most 
important composer of the second half of the twentieth century.  Even if I 
listen to Morton Feldman more.  Talk about two total badasses.  Anyone 
ever read the transcript of their conversation thats floating around the 
web?  I don't have the url, but I imagine that its pretty easy to 
find.  Its pretty great reading.
