framework - phonography/field recording; contextual and decontextualized sound activity
presented by patrick mcginley

a long playlist of shortish tracks for this edition, including 15 or so from one of ground fault's latest releases, dave phillips' IIIII. the glue that held this show together was an amazing document by american seismologist karl v. steinbrugge, a series of recordings of earthquakes from 50's and 60's america (north and south). the wonderful thing about this document is the contexts in which we find ourselves - the situations in which the tape was already rolling: the school recital, the tapped telephone call, the concert, and the taping of vinyl. it's not the earthquake that matters, but where it finds itself.

between these cracks we heard sounds from bj nilsen (previously hazard) with his latest, and best, effort on touch, a look at an interesting new project on the local sijis label, and a listen to an old favorite, the first illusion of safety record i ever heard, 1993's water seeks it's own level. this was all kicked off with a great intro recorded in the dark room of rachael jackson, whose photos undoubtedly grace many listener's cd collections...

our next edition, coming up this friday, is the next instalment of the framework:focus series, this time featuring the incredible work of jeph jerman (previously known as hands to). listen in for a chorus of scraping and crackling, and the best under-bridge recording i've ever heard.

and again, we are always looking for material for the show, whether raw field recordings, field recording based composition or introduction submissions. send material, released or not, on any format, to the address below. we are also hoping to have live performances as often as possible, so if you are in or passing through london please get in touch!
