Word. A large Samsonite combined with a sleepingbag and one of those rubber
mats will protect your gear from nearly anything. Those rubber mats are
exactly as wide as rack-gear. I toured quite a bit with that and a laptop
bag; never had something break. You can stand on them and better yet; if
given a low stage-table you can put it on it and your computer on the
suitcase which looks a bit odd but it saves your back from
"laptop-huchback-syndrome".
As a added side effect you´ll have your own sleeping stuff which means you
don´t need to play the "who sleeps where?" games, those can turn nasty
because they are always held at a time when everybody is tirered and out of
patience.
You´ll just curse it when it turns out your crash space is at the 5th floor
of a elevator-less building and that the neighbours of the other floors like
putting their shoes outside the door (I wish that remark was based on just
one isolated case but it isn´t.)
Yours,
Kas.
