if your looking for an ez to use drum programmer check out reason...the 
redrum is just as easy to use as fruity loops...just like an x0x drum box.

reason also has a neat pattern programmer more suited for synth lines called 
the matrix...both are very easy to use and powerful...the matrix can even 
send cv to your reason synths and samplers to control filters, pitch, etc

the only downside to reason is the sound quality...once u go maybe 1 octave 
above or below the root note in a sampler, u get this really high pitched 
sound...its pretty annoying...the only way past it short of a low pass 
filter is to setup multisample patches.
