Make sure to use the 0.38 version, the others are way out of date.
You can also use the compiled version on Miller Puckette's site:
http://www-crca.ucsd.edu/~msp/software.html (no externals included)

Compiling Pd on your own (that is, create a binary from the source
files) isn't too hard as well, but way off-topic here, so see ya on
pd-list: http://puredata.org/community/lists ;)
