roger mayer worked with hendrix experience , and i think also the who, and I think he has also
written on this subject, perhaps guitar magazines would be a good place to write to. I remember
guitar magazine http://www.guitarmagazine.co.uk/ is a good place to find articles, in back issues
or perhaps by writing to them.


several people claim the invention of distortion, for example toni iommi says he had the first distortion
pedal., but before that you had things like the kinks using an amp where they slashed up the speaker
cone with a razor blade. I think one reason for tube distortion was that on early Marshall etc
amps there was no master volume, it was either on or off, so it was fairly easy so push the valves past the
point of saturation, especially if you had to play louder to compete volume-wise with bass, drums, pa etc
