RE: [microsound] Re: London project
Sorry I posted back to Graham personally - our emails are copied below.
I don't think list projects have to only be in response to tragic
events. Take the recent proposal of the Summer project as an example.
However, there has been a dearth of projects since Kim stopped actively
leading them. I think there needs to be some centralisation or
motivation for doing these things. Perhaps Kim was seen as the 'group
leader' so his proposals held sway. We need someone to caretake each
group project. I am happy to take up the London project if we agree on
it.
As for your question, what is the microsound response to terrorism? Well
I think it comes in many forms. Some people utilise source sounds that
are related. Other people encapsulate their piece with accompanying
commentary. Either way, in the context of this project or things like
Antiopic's Allegorical Power series (www.antiopic.com/allegorical/) it
is the ensuing discussion that is most useful.
I'm not wishing to get into a debate about the ability of sound to
convey politics. I think the focus of these projects is a personal
response. If anyone decides to include political content or commentary
then that is their choice.
Simon.
