some folks are great at effects
some are great at music
sometimes the later use the effects of the former.

this also goes along with what i just posted, i personally am just not that impressed or interested with 'slick production' or innovation as i am with thoughtfulness and inspiration.

but i have to say this: Live's "genericism" is in fact Henke's "sound", i mean he wrote it. the very first thing i noticed when i first tried Live is how easy i could sound like a Monolake track.

if anyone on the face of the planet has justification to use Live with it's built-in presets, it's him.

If the only thing that makes electronic musicians good are their unique
effects, then there's really not much to the actual music, is there? I've
spent weeks building 'unique effects' in Pd, but without content to put
through those effects, they're pretty damn boring.
