[microsound] Re: making vinyl skip infinite
This is not a very predictable technique but it can make some fantastic
sounds: Lift up the tone arm with that little lever on the base, position
anywhere over the record, and slowly lower it until it's just skimming the
surface. At the right height, slight deformities in the record bring it in
and out of contact with the needle. It ends up in a locked groove since
the tone arm is being held by the lever, and you get crunchy distortion
effects when the needle is barely touching, as it effectively rectifies
the waveform. Try it out.
