Re: [microsound] studio monitors
I've always had really weird audio set-ups. My gear is usually second-hand, and questionable, but I like to think it gets the job done. Right now I have a pair of old studio monitors (David2000's, late 80s, Germany) powered by an NAD amp. For headphones I have a pair of Sony MD's that are decent for closed ear phones, but are too bassy. Made for dj'ing really. The Davids are quite good, very flat response, clear sound (albiet some faulty wiring), and the NAD is also very quiet. Noisiest thing in my set-up is my computer and Echo Indigo card, which pulses line noise every 30min or so.
While getting the best studio-grade equipment possible is a great goal, it's not necessary to making good music.
