Re: [microsound] Re: [ot] censoring a sound mix

this is an interesting comment. i would believe that
the soundtrack tension might push the overall impact
of the violent content into an emotionally threatening
range for less mature audience members (whatever that
latter means) and that maybe it has not so much to do
with besmirching the reputation of the film--like in
the Beijing example where the denunciation is more or
less for "professional imcompetence". this controversy
over the rating in effect starts out by seemingly
making the statement that the soundtrack is in effect
overly competent in rattling the nerves. so my own
assessment is that even if they had to change the film
, they could do so with the PR option in mind of
letting out the news later, permitting the controversy
to attract more attention to the release, keeping the
buzz going, etc. i am still not going to see it. the
religious issues are not all that fascinating anyway:
to make the statement that christ is no cosmic giant
but really no different than any other mortal royal
figure sending out bloodlines of dominion is of course
quite obvious. on the other hand, the whole european
tradition of royalty has the closeness of the king to
god as part of its ideology. so the mainspring of the
legitimation of worldy power is being fucked with.
good.
