Re: [microsound] birdsong

A friend made me a copy on CD of a Radio programme here in the UK of the artist Hannah Tuulikki talking about her piece "Salutation To The Sun"
What she has done is record the birdsong of native species, pitch shift the song down to a speed that can be mimicked by human whistling and then imitate the calls herself. She then pitch shifts the recording back to the pitch of the original birdsong and then mixes and spatializes the calls into a very convincing Dawn chorus.
On a personal level I found some of her arguments for doing this a little specious and the piece over long, it is, however, a fascinating work and quite an achievement.
I dont know whether this recording will ever be made available to the public, but it is worth researching the artist if you are interested.
Perhaps this isnt strictly microsound, but it is fascinating soundwork.
