[microsound] Audio Compression

Dear All,

After a couple of quiet years, we're uploading new content to Fallt (www.fallt.com). As part of this process we're re-converting our existing back catalogue, in particular the entire 'invalidObject Series' (Kim Cascone, Richard Chartier, Taylor Deupree, Stephan Mathieu, Pimmon, Pita etc.), into high bit rate format.

We're about to start creating new MP3s for the website from the original Fallt masters for all of our audio releases and want to convert them in as high a quality as possible.

We've started converting everything to MP3 format using iTunes at 320 KBPs, Variable Bit Rate, which is the maximum quality iTunes supports.

Before we finalise converting the rest of the back catalogue we'd welcome some thoughts on the best approach to supplying Fallt's audio in compressed format. What would everyone suggest?

Obviously there are more options available now - MP3, AAC, FLAC - than there were when we originally distributed many of our MP3s. If you could choose, what would you choose?

If you'd like to preview what we've done so far, there are a number of releases available here:

Feel free to email off-list - chris@xxxxxxxxx - meanwhile, thanks for your suggestions in advance.

Best,

Christopher
