[microsound] book club: The Political Economy of Noise

I am totally astonished and pleased at the repsonse to my book club  
proposal...I have read Attali's book at least a dozen times and have  
used it in countless papers I've written for academic journals...It is  
an amazing work and it should be required reading by anyone interested  
in the intersection of politics and music culture...
caveat: it dips into Marxist philosphy a bit so if you think this book  
is purely about aesthetics then this might not be your cup of  
tea...just a warning...

here are the logistics:
my iBook is in the shop for repair so I was thinking of starting the  
book club in August...

the way it would work is as follows:

1 - get GAIM or some AIM client on your laptop
those on Linux and XP can DL and install GAIM from here:
http://gaim.sourceforge.net/
those on OS X can use iChat which is already on your machine
all platforms have to first create an AIM account here:
http://www.aim.com/

2 - get a hold of the book and read the foreward by Fredric Jameson  
and Chapter One

3 - I will start a chat via AIM on August 1st at 10 AM PACIFIC TIME --  
my AIM username is mathfilm...please consult a world time web site for  
the time for California...

***if you have any questions contact me ON THE LIST...I'm hella busy  
on a writing project with a looming deadline so I am not answering  
personal emails all that much these days...
