Re: [microsound] I want myspace MTV
the allure to be a part of the myspace community is great but ultimately
most of the mp3's on myspace are not any better than the stuff I used to
hear on mp3.com -- remember that? I bet most of you don't...pretty much
same crap, different package...
I bet most of us do remember.
Yeah, _plenty_ of crap.
And plenty of REALLY FANTASTIC stuff too.
I would have to argue that there is more good stuff now, and that it is
easier to find than it was on mp3.com due to the ability for people to
interlink.
No likey, no linkey, you fall under the radar.
the noise to signal on myspace is also deafening...but that being said I
feel that a page should be created somewhere with all the microsound
members myspace accounts listed...maybe a script that would take an
email, parse the myspace addy and add it as a link to a page somewhere?
Sounds wise; Myspace, LJ, blog, and homepages under a single artist heading
would be best, methinks.
final: most of us have had enough of the one liner updates containing the
myspace account info...yes, you're cool for having a myspace account -
now let's talk about something more interesting? suggestions:
I find it kind of sad that you (and others) cant think of any other reasons
to add to a perfectly good thread (who else is on myspace?) than to 'be
cool' or to get around the 'no announce' rule or whatever the elitist whine
of the day is. Someone asked, the thread took off. Not like this happens
every single day. Get over it.
Plenty of good came of it, with microsounders crosslinking where they were
not previously, and listening to each others material in the process.
- what is the cultural/aesthetic intersection of 'places' like myspace
with 'spaces' like microsound
One such intersection, apparently, is threads like these, where some people
have input (results as above) and others just want to be elitist and whine
about said input. =/
- and is the 'enabling' power of social networks real or is it simply
another sort of commodity sold to us through viral advertising?
Obviously it is both.
Anyone can use these for their own benefit, basement artist or major label,
teenybopper or old geezer, therefore they are at least benign if not
beneficail.
More the point, the market has spoken.
