[microsound] I want myspace MTV
OK...I too have grown a little weary with all the 'me-too'
announcements of myspace addys...I'd rather debate the phenomenon of
myspace, which I would find personally interesting, but just sticking
your nose into the list to announce your myspace account addy without
having said peep for months is kinda contradictory to the noble
stance of 'myspace is about community!' innit?
- and please note the amount of microsound projects that have
materialized by someone other than myself? I feel this is a stronger
indication of (or lack thereof) 'community' than having a myspace
account.
yes, everyone and their grandmother now has a myspace account and no
doubt having one makes you unique in the electronic music world --
just as it does for the other 10 million bedroom artists with a shiny
myspace plastered with their mp3's...
the allure to be a part of the myspace community is great but
ultimately most of the mp3's on myspace are not any better than the
stuff I used to hear on mp3.com -- remember that? I bet most of you
don't...pretty much same crap, different package...
the noise to signal on myspace is also deafening...but that being
said I feel that a page should be created somewhere with all the
microsound members myspace accounts listed...maybe a script that
would take an email, parse the myspace addy and add it as a link to a
page somewhere?
final: most of us have had enough of the one liner updates containing
the myspace account info...yes, you're cool for having a myspace
account - now let's talk about something more interesting? suggestions:
- what is the cultural/aesthetic intersection of 'places' like
myspace with 'spaces' like microsound?
- and is the 'enabling' power of social networks real or is it simply
another sort of commodity sold to us through viral advertising?
