About that inverse square law : sound intensity is inversely proportional 
to distance from source to observer, squared. So, ca. 142 meters from you, 
imagine, are 20 000 Mongols, egressing their best at your bladder. They 
are as loud as the 1 Mongol 1 meter away.

Maybe what's to do is constructing a large one-stringed quasi banjo, 
something with a sizeable winch to tune with.
