Re: [microsound] The Pitfalls of DRM in 60 seconds

Interesting direction. There are some things about free markets that
I really appreciate, but most people who advocate "free markets" tend
to shy away from. For one, the pirate market, or Black Market is the
MOST free of all markets.

So if someone is truly a free market capitalist, then they should
encourage these "illegitimate" arenas of exchange: ESPECIALLY with
regards to so-called "intellectual property," which is really an
artificial mechanism to control infinitely reproducible information.

This perplexes me because if Republicans are pro-capitalist and pro
"free market," then why do they vote on legislation to limit the
importing of less expensive drugs from another country? And if they
are so anti-socialist, how come all of the ageing American farmer
Republicans balk whenever it is suggested that farm subsidies or
social security are discarded?

Just some noontime "wonderings."

I do, for the record purchase software, music, etc. But I also enjoy
the ability to try it unrestricted before purchasing.

I really only had a problem with the example. It think its poor, or i
do not understand it? What stops you from burning an mp3 to cd, or any
media for that matter? To using the mp3 in whatever player you choose?
Are they saying that DRM will eventually lead to proprietary media?
You can only listen to Old Led Zeppelin albums on so and so media
player because of some conglomorate who owns the music rights as well
as the technology/media to distribute it with packages it in such a way
to the public for consumption? That is rather distressing, and i think
it would have been a better example.
