1N411 power diodes aren't hand manufactured by backwoods artisans
operating rudimentary lathes, transported to the market on horseback, you
know. How is one supposed to repair that dusty, disused Hammond in the
corner when the flow of tubes really does cut off? The online synth-diy
community has been collectively dreaming about convincing some fab to
manufacture clones of certain specialty chips for years, to no avail.

You think those tubes and transistors are not fulfillments of dependency
on large commercial empires? Not until desktop assemblers of one variety
or another get to be common enough for the purpose.
