[microsound] The electronic musician's Dark Age: Technocracy

I sometimes ask myself "why did I choose an art form that is also an
enormous industry?" and regret it. By far music is the art that put more
pressure onto artists and not-yet-artists as well.

There are lots of utopian statuses to try to reach: the famous rock star,
the experimental genius, the wealthy dance producer, etc. In the urge for
reaching the status we have chosen, we make an effort to provide ourselves
with all the tools and knowledge we might need in our way. This thinking
frame feeds constantly the (over)population of technical masters who are
never going to produce a single piece of significant music. And often,
when someone comes up with something really worthy, he didnt even wanted
it to be or projected it.

And now, in electronic music, the most complex systems and knowledge
packages related to it's production have been popularised. Almost everyone
has come aware of Max or similar software, and many are already attending
computer programming and electronics courses. "Make your own tools!"
That's the trend. This stuff surely absorbs you 24/7. And where's the
music?

In this last edition of "The electronic musician's Dark Age", I sincerely
remain waiting for more optimistic opinions and propositions to get
ourselves out of this crossroads.
