Re: [microsound] (ot) Digital corruption tools?

Richard,

I use MATLAB to alter both sound and images. I use this for work normally to do digital signal processing on satellite images.

As far as putting files on speakers, I worry that the files will be so corrupt that they will not be able to be opened.

Another thought is to open the jpeg in a text editor, basically opening a binary as a text file, and copying and pasting sections. Do not do this to the beginning or the end of the file, you might mess up the header information and the file will not open up.

Subject: [microsound] (ot) Digital corruption tools?

Hi,

So not directly audio-related... but I'm looking for a tool or method to
create a decent level of "digital" corruption of image files (.jpg,
etc.), any ideas?

What I want is to take a file and either through a plugin or by directly
editing the file, randomly corrupt or "glitch" it up. I'm not familiar
with the structure of jpeg files enough to be able to do this but still
have it open in standard programs. I thought about copying the files
to floppy disks and leaving them on some speakers for a while... : )

With the interest and experience for this in regards to audio, I was
hoping
someone might be able to offer a suggestion for image files.

Best,
-Richard
