[microsound] ASA Workshop - Vancouver

Perhaps of interest for folks in Vancouver, BC, Canada:

A workshop on Aural Perception
Led by Eldad Tsabary

Email: workshop@xxxxxxxxxxxx for further details

The contemporary sound artist or composer working outside traditional
Western musical systems, rules and instrumentation, often relies on
instinct, gut-feeling, and most importantly hearing to create a sense
of continuous motion and spectral integrity. Auditory Scene Analysis
(A.S.A) – an understanding of human aural perception and its decision
making process – can provide an extremely effective set of tools that
can be used to organize sound objects in contemporary composition.
Workshop participants will be familiarized with several of these
concepts and be guided to their practical applications for
composition and sound creation.

Through listening, discussion, and real-time demonstration, the
participants will explore techniques for creating sonic hybrids out
of individual sound components, they will be shown how to use
concepts such as “common fate” or “familiarity” to their advantage in
guiding the listener’s perception, and more.

Eldad Tsabary is a Montréal based composer and sound artist whose
music is inspired by the concepts of sound-mass, metamorphosis, and
constant motion and is often based on intercultural subject matter.

Presented by Meda Arts Committee – CRES/CFRO Co-op Radio, with
support from VIVO (Video In/Video Out).
