Re: [microsound] why not start a forum?

i'm also much more inclined to easily and quickly reply to an email without even having to reach for the mouse. i dig forums for some things, but can't get into the social aspect of them. the intimacy of a limited set of subscribers on a mailing list is much more interesting for me.

There is a general problem with forums vs. mailing lists. Forums force
you to use the software/interface the forum provider selects for you.
Mails let you use the software you yourself like best. Even in Web 2.0
times, it's hardly possible to configure and personalize a forum
interface. (And I'm not talking about avatar icons, I'm talking about
keyboard shortcuts, custom filters, fast offline searches etc.) So
mailing lists are the more democratic and flexible medium for
discussion.
