Re: [microsound] midi controller surface/mixer for Logic
Nice one for the heads up on the new Akai controller Boris, it sounds
interesting. Will check that out later.
I stumbled upon Novations newest midi controller online last night, the
Nocturn, and I'm beginning to wonder if I should maybe start small and
simple (only 9 knobs and 8 buttons on the Nocturn) before graduating to a
larger, more complex work surface. The Nocturn's got the updated Automap
2.0, a resizable onscreen GUI showing what's mapped to where, and touch
sensitive knobs... They don't land in the shops until later this month, but
early impressions amongst gearhounds appear to be (unsurprisingly)
favourable.
BTW the updated Automap spec is to be made available for download to all
existing ReMOTE owners/users over at the Novation website. I'm sorry, but I
have no idea as to whether they have made it any easier to switch the
Automap feature off.
Has anybody got any impressions about the Mackie C4 that they'd like to
share ? Or any other Logic addressable midi control surfaces they think
merit a mention ? If so feel free to let me know (off list if you'd
prefer).
Thanks
bp

Hey Brian,
I personally hate the Novation ReMOTE. Sure they are sturdy, come with a
good amount of knobs and faders, and the XY touchpad is funky, except that
to turning automap off is a huge pain in the ass. To turn off automap,
there
is a multistep function for each and every asignable button. I don't
understand how they couldn't have thought to include an automap off.
Finding
out on their website how to turn it off is very time consuming and
ambiguous
too.
I just saw Akai's new midi controller, I haven't actually used it yet, and
sadly, it's a bit pricey, but it comes with cool features. Knobs and
faders,
mpc-style drum buttons, a keyboard, etc, all the usual stuff, plus it comes
with a built in arpeggiator, which (as I said I haven't tried it out yet,
so
not sure how good or useful it is..) http://www.akaipro.com/prodMPK49.php
the
website will have all the specs.
