Re: [microsound] beginning-less universe

what's wrong w/ dark energy?

i think it sounds like a 1970s miles davis album. i'm already picturing the cover art: zulus in space suits and synthesizers transgressing the event horizon.

on a more serious note, the whole concept of dark matter and dark energy is totally beyond my feeble math skills, but from what i do know about the history of physics, these concepts have always reminded me of luminiferous aether, this debunked idea that there was this mysterious medium that was invisible to all perception that light had to travel through. basically aether was just dreamed up as a solution to a problem, or rather as a way of describing or explaining the physical behaviour of light. it took a radical new approach w/ einstein's general theory of relativity to show that there was in fact no need at all to have this mysterious aether substance.

some part of me feels that dark matter and dark energy might go the same way as aether did. sure the existence of dark energy and dark matter help explain, or flll in the blanks, to some big questions regarding the total amount of mass in the universe and its effect of gravity and the formation of galaxies... but maybe it'll take another einstein to tackle the problem from a totally different angle...

In our picture, there was a universe before the Big Bang, very much like our universe today: a low density of matter and some stuff called dark energy.

Ugly word for a beautyfull thing. "Dark Energy".....
Even scientists are spreading the bitter words!

But this dosn't say I like your idea. And i do like your idea.
