Re: [microsound] guitar amp/sim advice
i certainly have similar endorsements for the guitar
rig set up with line 6, but am not absolutely certain
about forgoing all hardware in the future. that may
be because i collect vintage amplifiers, which provide
such unique sounds as to never be approached by guitar
rig. but as graham stated, the effects and
personalities capable in guitar rig with line 6 are
totally amazing. worth any price that you may pay for
it.
for me, the best application is the ability to record
direct. no mic-ing of amplifiers greatly adds to the
convenience of using this technology. i plug
straight into m-audio box, and begin from there, as
opposed to fidgeting with mic-ing techniques for hours
on end. although there is something that can be said
for getting a good sound, with good mic placement, off
a live amp set-up. endgame is the way you want to
approach this. what are your requirements for your
"sound " ? and if you can work without live sounding
room instruments, line 6 is going to work out well
for you.
i've been listening to this artist, brad laner today.
my bet is he is using the same set up, though i know
nothing about him. his music is pop / experimental,
but the range of guitar sounds is impressive to say
the least. his music can be heard in a number of
places, but here is the quickest myspace link -
http://www.myspace.com/bradlaner
best regards,
b.g.
