Re: [microsound] Is choral music ambient?



In my opinion, the reasoning behind attributing the origins of ambient
to Mahler and Satie probably has to do with their tonal ambiguities
over extended periods, which conveys a sense of uniform 'ambiance'
(not in all their music though). I don't think renaissance or medieval
music would qualify as ambient, as there is a clear sense of
direction, however slowly it may develop when compared to, say,
baroque.

Of course, we should start with a clear and unequivocal definition of
'ambient' (I haven't read that book)... Does it need to be slow?
