RE: [microsound] a Pi Day article to enjoy

there is a preview
of a very interesting article on "the geometry of music" and musical
space by the mathematician Wilfrid Hodges. I have found it
very inspirational the last couple of years, and very illuminating
about many ideas that relate with notation.

follow this link and then click on the first link:

also,

there is a pdf in his web-site about Pythagoras'
rational numbers that is kind of funny.

here is the beginning:

Pythagoras taught that the world is based on rational
numbers.
When his followers discovered that square root of 2 is irrational, this
showed that his main teaching was rubbish.
To prevent public disgrace, they put a curse on anybody
who revealed that square root of 2 was irrational.
Hippasus leaked the theorem, and died in a shipwreck a
few days later.
