it is a lot about perception...
can a sound artist perform or play some sound in art gallery?
yes, but then maybe they're acting as a musician
or can a sound artist record and hand out her/his sounds?
yes, but it depends on how they're presenting these recordings.
or can a sound artist be a musician, also?
of course!
is there music in an art gallery without a performer?
there's recordings of music. or perhaps there's a musical installation -
but this might be more likely to be sound art than music.
Can we listen a music without a performer in an art gallery?
of course. but, how is it presented?
a musician also act or perform on the stage, so we can call her/him as
a performer, right?
yes, of course. whether or not they're a performance Artist or just a
performer is another question.
