Re: [microsound] texture as narrative
it's intersting that the 'Time Machines' CD by Coil was mentioned because
this is one of the CD's I was listening to in my car that I found
interesting...they also did a LP in the 80's titled 'how to destroy angels'
that I also found to be similar in it's textural narrative approach...
within the 'Time Machines' pieces they tend to introduce elements into the
sound that keep it slowly and subtly evolving...this effect is also used
(more obviously) in techno where the 303 is playing a repetitive pattern
while the filter and resonance knobs are being twiddled in real time
forming a 'filter story'...even some of the drum and bass stuff by LTJ
Bukem seems to have these subtly evolving atmos that stay backgrounded but
can be brought to the foregound as the I shift my attention...
does this backgound/foreground effect help create a 'successful'
monochromatic narrative?
