philip jeck? + viratone ballad

so who is philip jeck anyway?  i can't stop listening to 'surf'.  the
touch website offers a picture for an explanation, which is nice but not
properly informative.  :)

touch seems to have a thing for the 'non-dsp'ed' wizards...  on this
album jeck lists record players, tape machines & casio keyboards as his
instruments.  musically, themes come & go in a murk of tape hiss &
general crackle, distorted at will & all the better.  sometimes fairly
asynchronous, never resembling 'techno' yet very rhythmical & engaging
at a most fucked up level...  & i love the sound palette.  god, you have
what sounds like a woody woodpecker sample in track 5 & it WORKS.  what
a mesmerizing album!

& speaking of surprising music, the viratone ballad mini-ep (barely 6
minute long) on the hotline server is worth your download...  let's hope
multsanta fixes that first track.  :)  a very potent mixture of glitches
& caustic wooshes that melts in your ear not in your hand.
