Three New Microwave Releases

sorry if this message contains a "commercial" nature. We're reaching
probably more interested then placing over-priced adds in all too hip
magazines, who refuse to review these releases for their "non-commercial"
character. Also sorry for cross posting...

Microwave M010
artist: VARIOUS ARTISTS
title: MICROWAVE - A MANUAL
out now - CDR only

Every fifth release on Microwave is a compilation of some kind. A Manual is
the second compilation and it's intention is to introduce young artists
(besides a few well-knowns) aswell as to sow a bit more confusion on what
microwave is or what it could be. To define music in a genre, is to kill it
probably.

We find the fragile broken up structures of Hem, Freiband and Petra
Klusmeyer, sitting next to the boom-da-boom work of Massimo and Cancerman
and the down right click work of Radboud Mens and the barely present
Immedia. This is not a collection of left-overs, but in many cases
especially created for this compilation. With e-mail addresses mentioned
for all artists, so that the adventurous listener can get in direct contact.

The complete list of participants:
Radboud Mens
Immedia
Petra Klusmeyer
Monotonos
Hem
Freiband
Kim Cascone
Sony Mao
Tarlose
Surge
Brian Lavelle
Massimo
Cancerman
Arizona Running

Microwave M013
artist: PETRA KLUSMEYER
title: PRE_NEXT_POP
out now - CDR only

Petra Klusmeyer (1968) was born in Bremen, Germany but now lives in
Chicago, USA. She works on musics and exhibitions and has played concerts
at ZKM (Karlsruhe, Germany), in Portugal and in Chcago. Although this is
her first release, she has made some self-released CDRs and will soon
release music on Boxmedia (USA) and Hapna (Sweden).

She says about her music:

"Essentially I work with debris, a digital landscape of glitches, clicks
and recognizable fragments which are reorganized into a composition in
which mistakes become aestheticized, no longer falsities but artifice. My
approach to the material is simple. I destroy CDs and make CDs: a
recurring cycle (recycling) of thought. The computer is my tool, an
editing environment: I am a creator as much as a saboteur. The sound
object is the consequence of experimenting with the medium: digital
technology turned inside out. The work is not based on the idea of what
digital media represents but formulates ideas regarding its idiosyncratic
qualities. The fragments are identified as abstracts as well as the
remnant of musicality thus suggesting emotions, spaces, musical idea: the
pieces describe the interstice between the aestheticization of noise and
homogeneity of time and space."

This CDR is now available in an edition of 222 copies. Petra Klusmeyer also
has a track on the Microwave compilation: Microwave - A Manual (M010),
which is now available.

Microwave M014
artist: BRIAN LAVELLE
title: FAULT/R
out now - CDR only

Brian Lavelle [b. 1972] has been involved in creating music since prior to
1990. He has recorded his solo work extensively, revising and revitalising
existing recordings to the point of their [and his!] near inward collapse.
Much of this work is based on a distillation of 'pataphysical concerns
brought into the audio sphere and the majority of them have still to see
the light of day.

More publicly, he has worked with Richard Youngs on the Radios series, a
ten album set of conceptual releases, each focussed on a particular set of
sound sources and processes. Radios 6 and Radios 7 have just been released
on Bake Records, with the remainder to follow shortly on the label. The duo
have played at the South Bank Centre in London as part of the London
Musicians' Collective's series of new music concerts and more recently have
featured at Transmission Gallery in Glasgow in radiotuesday's ongoing
series of exhibitions focussed on the idea of radio.

With Alistair Crosbie, Lavelle is one half of Inversion, an ever evolving
studio and live project with a number of planned releases, and Novia, their
techNOH alter ego. Present collaborations include Mirror of Korea [with
Patrick Marley] and an as yet untitled project with Frans de Waard. Further
solo releases are imminent, together with the first release on Lavelle's
own label, ethernity.

fault/r is an album of computer rendered digital recordings which revolve
around Alfred Jarry, Max Ernst and the notion of techNOH. Its release
heralds a new direction from earlier 'soundscape'-style recordings.

Although fault/r has the rhythms of say Ikeda or Pan Sonic, it doesn't
posess the hard edges as sometimes found. Lavelle doesn't hide away his
minimal music background, but re-incorporates it into a distinctively new
direction.

This CDR is now available in an edition of 222 copies. Brian Lavelle also
has a track on the Microwave compilation: Microwave - A Manual (M010),
which is now available.
