good point, although Tina Frank & Designers Republic actually do different
artwork for each cover, and it works well, and but and they do not use the
same design for each release which is basically what Ritornell is doing. I

mmm...yes. however, in some ways, many of the covers produced by tina, designers republic and others follow a form that is simply being redefined. the conventional "subject" is different, but often the form itself is the subject to a greater degree than the "subject" is. carson and, to a lessor degree, frank are proponents of this, in demonstartion, if not intent.
on the other hand, one could argue that the artwork for the covers of the ritornell releases isn't all the same, they simply use the same motiff.
though ritornell is indeed a label, i do tend to regard it as a series, in that these releases might just as well come out on mille plateaux. setting them aside as a ritornell release seems an effort by achim to highlight them as something special, with a subtext that is shared by the artists (or the particular musics) featured.
