RE: [microsound] MUTEK abuse...
What is the primary force that shapes our perception of an artist's status?
Is it critical reception, record sales, the amount of press in general that
an artist receives, the quality of their work? Can an artist be "larger"
without selling as many records? I honestly can't figure out what makes a
(micro)star...

i think one major point is that "larger" artists are "larger" not
necessarily because of talent.. but because of marketing.. so, there
is no real correlation between quality and a "larger" artist...
and, yes, also it has to do with higher expectations.. but hopefully
people will realize that quality of the lesser known artists can be
just as good..
