it seems to me that the Mac still has a slight software edge, especially
when you consider that you can run most windows-based programs in OS 9 with
good emulation software.  of course, there's more bang for your processing
buck if you go with a PC, but will it run the programs you want to use?  it
probably is also true that the mac will hold its resale value more than an
equivalent PC.

I myself bought one of the new graphite iBooks (466mhz, 192MB RAM) and have
been very happy.  USB audio solutions are out there and working, and surely
a great firewire interface is around the corner.
