it is certain that internet is a huge help to announce or promote one's activities

however it is a fact that record sales have been going down within the past 15
years; and it is partly due to piracy although before burning CDRs people were
already tape-recording... I remember when i started my label in 1993, one of my
bands was touring and had 300 people every night but i wasn't selling so many
records of them...
So, i'd say piracy has always been present - though quality used to be inferior -
but if sales decrease it is mostly because it has become so easy to issue a CD
that there are tons of new releases every month so it is harder to sell yours.
So it isn't good for sales but great for culture.
