Re: [microsound] Live Composition
Like the "theory in music" thread some weeks ago, we
are still slammin' into open doors but, hey, where's
the fun in life if you can't argue on something...

Fundamentally, the machines could be built by
thousands of monkeys in a basement and it wouldn't
change anything!
Would I also have to credit burroughs' calculator for
enabling further research on adding machines, thus
paving the way for the more complex ordinating devices
we use? Even if a particularly blessed artisan
produces an exceptionnal musical instrument (ok, ok,
it's the Stradivarius cliché again) he is still
producing a tool for someone else's talent. If a
gifted musician is helped in his performance by the
quality of the instruments he uses, of course part of
the credit will go to the responsible
artisans/programmers. But in the end, the musician can
play the same thing on a less superior device and
still produce equally interesting work.
My creativity is not limited to the systems I use; if
there's a blackout I'm still a musician, when I'm
walking home from work I can sing microsound (but you
wouldn't want to hear that).
