This usage of "monography" is marked as [Obs] in both dictionaries I had
to hand. In current usage, a (scientific) description of a single person
(or subject) is a monograph. No -y. In english we have a photograph
(which is a thing), and we have photography (which is a practice), but a
photograph != photography (one would not say, "May I take your
photography?").
But yes, the word "monography" does exist in english. It refers to the
practice of representation by drawing single-color outlines (e.g. a
coloring book).
