It's interesting to think about how the persistent regularity of the
four-on-the-floor factors into a group expression of discontinuity. If the
beat only serves as a substrate upon which amorphous sounds are laid, it
seems...odd...that this movement's unified expression would drift so close
to Zappa's "wallowing in rubato".
