Re: [microsound] Ecce Coder - ne, max/msp

Interesting points of views, but there is one point of view that pushes me to drag this thread on. +on+on

i would wish to ask likeminded folks asyourself that, would you, for musical purposes confine your self to just one tone or timbre of sound. i bet not. ofcourse theres a creative approach to limiting ones self to tools and working within confines(minimal Microsound dub anyone?) but that is for artistic reasons and id rather confine myself when *i* want to.Id rather be afforded the choices to make all the desicions that would affect my music making abilities.

ofcourse coding is hard, and the musician has to strike a balance between constructing his tools and making music with his tools. these two criteria are very closely dependent on each other.

max/msp, supercollider and kyma strike that ballance beautifully for me and many other ppl. In MHO Csound is too unresponsive for me and reaktor is too limiting for me, i aspire to learn C for music Dsp but thats just a naive crush cause im ignorant and suffer from the 'if i had a wall of moog, i could make that monster sound'.

as long as the sounds in your head keep leeking out the way your want them to sound like, then i guess everything is fine. though if your not happy with the sounds you are making, then its not worth it, be you a C++ coder or a six stringed axe warrior.

My own feeling is that music - or
any other creative extruding - will express itself by whatever means it
can, with one's self and one's consciousness as Its instruments; if one is
a coder, it will get to the speakers through code, whereas if one is a
carpenter, it will be born with the aid of drills and saws. But after this
birth, by what ever means, what does this child do, what does it
sing? That is the question.

Respect to all.
