i'm always on the lookout for glitch appearances in pop music.

Anja garbarek (yes, daughter of ecm's Jan Garbarek) has a new record called *smiling and waving*, and it's heavily peppered with Mille plateaux-ish sound crackles and hums, and it's kinda cool because she didn't enlist some hotshot *noise* producer guy to make the sounds: she did it herself.

the good side is that this album is evidence of glitch diffusing into other genres (it's appropriate-able!!) in a non-tacky way. plus Mark hollis produces some of it, and robert wyatt sings!

the bad side is Anja's tendency to lapse into Portishead-vibe territory.

still, worth buying. worth hearing.
