if you go back to that dumpster you may find a copy of 'Alvin Lucier:
Reflections - interviews, scores, writings' (publ. 1995 MusikTexte ISBN
3-9803151-2-6) a 544 pages bilingual (English/German) book of what the
title says), or you could try to order it somewhere.
It has, on page 416, an extensive article by Lucier on that particular
piece (with an introduction by Robert Moog on the vocoder (in this case a
Sylvania Electronic Systems vocoder, indeed an early digital machine).

It is a great record.
