i don't think this is an attack on bush as a president. it is an 
attack on america and our feelings that we are safe on our own 
soil... so yes, i think it would have happened whether bush or gore 
were president. unfortunately there was a huge lack of intelligence 
on this. it was a surprise to everyone on every level.

a local update here in new york: the sun is beginning to set and the 
sky taking on an eerie yellow. smoke still billows from the wreckage 
and some paper and debris rained down on our apartment not long ago. 
one of my neighbors, a little 8 year old girl named phoebe, picked up 
a burned piece of paper from the ground.
