Re: [microsound] oval armani
So, are you saying that music that apparently "uses" its audiene by releaseing
extra/lost(/found) tracks should be judged by these extra or additional
releases? What on earth has this kind of apparent commercialism to do with the
quality of the music? Or are you just using these extra releases as a post
factum argument to back up your claim that Oval´s "overrated"? Hard to tell
which comes first here.
Regarding Europe vs. Japan: I though it was already established that imported
CDs are *cheaper* (if you can imagine) in Japan than domestic releases. To make
sure the japanese record buying public support their domestic record industry
they (the industry) have to add extra tracks that are not found anywhere
else...which sounds rather clever to me if the product you are selling can
easily be bought cheaper elsewhere.
Oval´s music? Been loving it since Systemisch and still find it hugely
fascinating. Dok is brilliant and contains a few of the most beautiful
ambientglitchmetallicshiningsurface music I can think of. Ovalprocess is equally
appreciated; the sound of your dial-up-modem connection played by a very musical
powerbook.
Oval´s glitching is one thing. His luvely sense of harmony is another (yet it´s
still not widely appreciated it seems; it´s always the glitches, but they
wouldn´t be as special if it wasn´t for the harmonies/melodies).
