Well, I know that you can move the mouse around in an X-Y pad, and draw in
graph areas, effectively allowing you to control the sound.  That's in    
MSP, though.  In Max you can use the "key" & "keyup" objects to accept
keyboard input.  MouseState gives you the the mouse's x- and y-
coordinates, so you could effectively use the mouse as an instrument like
that.  There are other cool objects that allow input from graphics
tablets, powergloves and other custom stuff, too.  So you can definitely
do it, you just have to make the patch.
